My Causes and Issues
Here are some of the causes on my mind. I've tried to
sort them into categories, but some of them overlap (In fact, all of them
somehow relate to each other).
Nonviolence Issues
Gun
Control
In school, I always end up having to argue about why Americans should
be allowed to have guns...and in doing so, I've realized how opposed I am to a
society with such easy access to firearms.
World
Peace
I'm an idealist at heart, and I really believe that someday
world peace is going to happen.
Other
Environmental Issues
Animal
Rights
So many people seem to have a problem with those who are into
animal rights. I've loved animals all my life, and I don't think they should be
used or exploited they way they are. They're not property or inanimate
things.
Vegetarianism
I've been veggie for almost two years now, and there's no way I could
imagine myself going back. If you've ever considered going veggie but haven't
done it yet for one reason or another, I'd really encourage going through with
it.
Recycling
Recycling is one of the really, really easy things you can do
for the environment.
Endangered
Species
As you know, I love animals. I think it's sad that there is such
disregard for animals that some people don't care if they get wiped off the
face of the planet. Once they're gone, there's nothing we can do to bring them
back.
Pollution
I know the environment is able to adapt to change, but things have been
changing so fast that nature hasn't had time to catch up.
Other
Other Issues
Feminism
I suppose it's kind of natural to feel that I shouldn't be treated as a
second-class citizen because I'm a girl.
Anti-Death
Penalty
So many innocent people have been on death row, the choice to exectue
is often affected by other factors (race, social class, etc), and it seems like
an easy way out...the person who committed the crime doesn't even learn what he
or she did and never feels any guilt.
Free
Speech
No matter what your opinion is, I think you should be able to express
it.
Anti-Hate/Acceptance
I wasn't too into this issue...but once I started hearing people at
school making ignorant remarks about things like race and sexual orientation, I
got really enraged. I don't think people who speak hatefully should be
censored, but I think they should be countered by people who speak with
acceptance.
