Inside Jokes

Sonny and Cher
I had just brought an old record player in my room. I
found the "I've Got You Babe" single, and I listened to it. And then, I just
couldn't stop singing, especially during chemistry (Sanna and I annoyed Mr.
Schmitt so much during that class!)
Ragrats
Monica thought she looked like she just rolled out of bed,
so she said, "I feel like such a total ragrat today." The phrase caught on, and
now we define that slightly unkempt appearance (the one where you're too tired
to look nice) as the "ragrat look."
Dumb Blonds
Sanna once called me a "dumb blond" (as a joke, of
course). I responded with a quote which has become representative of my
weirdness, "I may be dumb, but I'm not blond."
Doogie Howser MD
We were reading "My Antonia" for a class, and
Monica said, "Isn't there a movie version? I'm going to rent it. I think
Doogie's in it!" Well, she rented the movie and Neil Patrick Harris, who played
Doogie Howser, was indeed in it. That sent us on a little trip down memory
lane, back to those Doogie days. We both loved that show in third grade, but
looking back, it was really weird.
"What were you eating under there?" "Under where?"
If you don't get
it, say it out loud!
Sanna told me this joke last year, and I fell for it.
Then, she asked Mr. Schmitt the question, and he fell for it, too (in front of
the whole class, might I add...it was so funny!)
The John Lennon Palm Tree
Monica and I were supposed to be working
on an English paper, but we ended up drawing instead. I made the discovery that
John Lennon's self-portrait looked conspicuously like a palm tree, so we
decided to cross-breed these two specimens. And the result was amazing! Many
other experiments followed, producing such creatures as the John Lennon
Pineapple, the John Lennon Sheepdog, the John Lennon Eggshell, the John Lennon
Red Ribbon, the John Lennon Chicken, the John Lennon Billy Goat, the John
Lennon Broccoli (which is tragically now extinct), the John Lennon Rodent, the
John Lennon Hedgehog, Zoobilee John, and the Lennon-Bopp Comet. Geez, we were
busy (previous word should be pronounced "bizz-ay!"). Then
cross-breeding fever struck
again...we added the John Lennon Lunchbag, the John Lennon Computer, the
John Lennon Blankie, the John Lennon Paper Plate, the John Lennon Calculator,
the John Lennon Backstreet Boy, the John Lennon Wig, the John Lennon Candy Bar,
the John Lennon Package, and the John Lennon Hot Dog.
Professional Psycho Chickens Sitting Atop Food Products
Me and
Monica, again. We were trying to work on the same project as mentioned in the
Palm Tree joke. I drew a chicken dressed as a cook, then she drew a cookie
under him, and something psychotic began! We drew many more in this series,
including 50's chicken on a candy cane and chicken in a pot of soup. We almost
submitted our drawing to American Girl Magazine, but we didn't meet the
deadline for pictures.
My Famous Fire Hydrant
Everyone seems to have a hard time
identifying my house, especially at night. So most people remember it by the
famous fire hydrant just a few feet from my driveway.
Hale-Bopp and Heaven's Gate
Monica once asked me if I thought
Marshall Applewhite's (whom we affectionately call Marshy) eyes were scary. And
somehow it exploded from them. We began making postcards from Marshy and the
Heaven's Gaters from the Hale-Bopp Comet, drawing pictures of Marshy's
childhood must have been like, and I almost wrote a song parody (to the tune of
Hanson's MMMBop, but it never quite worked out). We once even worked the cult
into our English project.
Yodeling Goats
It all started with that scene in "The Sound of
Music" with the puppet show and the yodeling. I don't know how exactly it grew
to the strange obsession it became.
Vienna Boys Choir
Monica and I were looking at a brochure from the
symphony while on a field trip. There was a picture of the Vienna Boys Choir
and Monica was like, "So how old are those choir boys?" I don't know
why, but it was funny then. I guess you had to be there.
That Shining Time Station Music
Monica and I were on a train (for
the same field trip as the choir boys story) and we started singing the
background music from "Shining Time Station." This later evolved into two other
acts of weirdness. To the music, we developed a dance and a method to draw
smiley faces on the window of the bus (you'd have to see it to
understand).
WuvLuvs
WuvLuvs are evil toys that they advertise during "Pokemon."
They say "here comes baby," an egg comes out of its chin, and the baby starts
singing "The Itsy Bitsy Spider." I can do an impression of a WuvLuv going
through labor, but it is NOT suitable for public display.
Robin Hood Music
Somehow, on the bus to a field trip, I started
singing the song from the opening credits of Disney's "Robin Hood." Now that
song and the "Oo De Lally" song (also from Disney's "Robin Hood") manage to get
in our heads at the worst possible times.
